Condemnation of Freemasonry
by the Genuine Orthodox Church of America

Following in the footsteps of our Orthodox predecessors, who have condemned Freemasonry, we find it needful to reiterate this condemnation especially in this time of Ecumenism and apostasy.

In the past, the following condemnations of Freemasonry were issued:

1) The Archbishop of Cyprus, Cyprianos, in 1815, issued his condemnation, which began, “Wherefore, clad in the sacred vestments of the epitrachelion and omophorion, we say...‘To as many as it may apply,...let them be excommunicated and accursed who pursue after such a diabolic and lawless employment of Freemasonry, and all that follow after their infatuation and unto their error....

2)The Council of Bishops of the Russian Church Outside of Russia in their epistle to all the faithful dated August 1932, which began, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world...Freemasonry is a secret international organization to struggle with God, Christianity, and all national governments, especially Christian governments...”

3) The official statement of the Church of Greece, 1933, which began, “Freemasonry is not simply a philanthropic union or a philosophical school, but constitutes a mystagogical system which reminds us of the ancient heathen mystery-religions and cults--from which it descends and is their continuation and regeneration...Freemasonry cannot be at all compatible with Christianity,...

We also, the Bishops of the Genuine Orthodox Church of America, state that Freemasonry is a religion and that no Orthodox Christian should adhere to its teachings, nor claim membership in it or any organization which derives its existence from it.

Orthodoxy is the only holy, catholic, and apostolic Church where a man may seek light and salvation. There is no other God than our one God worshiped in Trinity--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is no other path to the kingdom than through true Christianity. There is no true religion other than the one founded by our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other philosophy greater than the Gospel. There is no priesthood other than that of the Orthodox Church, and there is no other Baptism or initiation, other than that of our holy Church.

Therefore, let it be known to all who are seeking the truth, the Orthodox Church does not condone any affiliation with this secret religion/organization. If one is a member of a Masonic Lodge, he looses his membership in the Orthodox Church, for Saint Paul distinctly preaches, what communion hath light with darkness, and what connection is there between a believer and an unbeliever?
