Synod of the True Orthodox Church of the Patristic Calendar (Avlona Synod)

This synod was headed by Metropolitan Angelos (1950-2021) of Avlona and Viotia, who was born in Athens and studied theology at Capodistrian University. He was part of the new calendar church in Greece and established a convent of around 100 nuns who were former professional singers. Since these nuns received pensions from the government, and they then signed these accounts over to their spiritual father Angelos, he became incredibly rich and lavishly adorned his Convent of the Myrrhbearers. On September 30th (O.S.), 1996, he was consecrated a bishop in the Synod in Resistance by “Metropolitan” Cyprian of Fili. Also participating in the consecration was Bishop Agafangel from the apostate Cyprianite ROCOR under Met. Vitaly. Sometime later, Angelos joined the true Church when he was received in his orders by the Greek GOC (Lamian Synod). He subsequently left this synod in 2007 in order to join with the infamous Evlogius and his Milan Synod in 2008. The following year, Angelos started his own church in Greece called the Synod of the True Orthodox Church of the Patristic Calendar (ερά Μητροπολιτική Σύνοδος Πατρώου Ἱ Ἑορτολογίου τῆς Ἐκκλησίας ΓΟΧ Ἑλλάδος). This uncanonical Avlona Synod would hereafter be a sister church of the Autonomous Orthodox Metropolia of North and South America and the British Isles. Angelos died in 2021 and was replaced by Metropolitan Cherubim. Today the Avlona Synod has seven bishops who stretch from Europe to Latin America to Georgia to Ukraine.
