The acronym HOCNA represents the so-called “Holy Orthodox Church of North America”, another schism formed partly from ROCOR and partly from the Florinite Greek Old-Calendarists in the 1980’s, formed around the personality and crimes of the homosexual Archimandrite Panteleimon Metropoulos.
Fr. Panteleimon heads the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Brookline, Massachussettes, originally a part of ROCOR. However, in 1985, during the course of a synodal investigation into the accusations of homosexual crimes made by several of his monks against Fr. Panteleimon, the frightened abbot suddenly transferred his monastery to the jurisdiction of two schismatic Greek Old-Calendar bishops. One of these afterwards began an investigation of the charges against the abbot. Shortly thereafter, for practical reasons, the monastery again transfered to the jurisdiction of the deposed simonaic Archbishop Auxentios of Athens, then in schism from the Florinites. Within a short time, Fr. Panteleimon succeeded in having the simonaic archbishop ordain several of Fr. Panteleimon’s monks bishops, not long before Auxentios’ death, whereupon, the abbot and his puppet disciple-bishops broke off communion with Auxentios’ successor Maximos, and have remained in isolation from everyone else ever since.
In the meantime, the count of victimized public accusers of the homosexual abbot and other corrupt members of the monastery has risen to twenty-five former monks and novices of Holy Transfiguration Monastery. HOCNA is a personality-cult centered around Fr. Panteleimon, formed for his protection through uncanonical successive schisms from ROCOR and the Greek-Old Calendarists.
